The Mid-Autumn Festival and Eastern Tea Culture
The Mid-Autumn Festival is more than a time of reunion—it is the perfect occasion to share tea. As Heinrich Wang notes in The Will of the Teapot, a tea gathering...
The “Blessing Gourd” is a small yet meaningful piece of contemporary porcelain art, transforming the auspicious gourd motif from Eastern culture into a refined and poetic desk accessory. Designed by Taiwanese artist Heinrich Wang, the piece combines symbolism, functionality, and elegant craftsmanship in one compact form.
Inspired by the concept of 福祿 (good fortune and prosperity), the gourd features:
A precise notch for holding business cards—symbolizing the start of auspicious connections.
Delicate perforations on top for pens, or even a single flower—representing thoughts written, memories shared, and friendships celebrated.
Despite its small size, the creation process demands remarkable skill. Each opening must be carved at just the right moisture level: too wet and the form collapses, too dry and the surface cracks. The result is a light yet enduring vessel that captures the essence of thoughtful living.
“Connection through compassion, celebration in kindness—
when gourds meet, blessings fill the world.”
— Heinrich Wang
