Blessings in Flight is a white porcelain platter built around the Chinese auspicious phrase wufu linmen — five blessings arriving at the door. Five butterflies fly inward from every direction toward a central latticed doorway opening, presenting the blessings not as a static symbol but as a scene in motion. At 19.5 × 19.5 cm, the piece works as a wall ornament, trivet, serving platter, teapot stand, flat vase, and more — a daily companion that carries its blessing into every corner of a life.

Why Blessings in Flight | Why This Piece

The blessing is a verb, not a noun. Five butterflies fly toward the central doorway from every direction — linmen means arriving at the door, a present-tense action. The piece does not show blessings already received. It shows them in flight, on their way. That distinction is the entire design concept.

The butterfly carries the blessing in its name. In Chinese, húdié (butterfly) shares its first character with fú (blessing/fortune) in traditional wordplay — the butterfly is the blessing made visible and given wings. Five butterflies, five qualities of fortune: longevity, prosperity, health, virtue, and a life fulfilled. The layout is festive and alive, not the solemn stillness of a conventional auspicious object.

The latticed doorway opening is a craft achievement. A square latticed opening fired in high-temperature white porcelain is among the most fragile structures in the medium — prone to fracture and deformation in the kiln. Every piece that comes through with the opening square and intact represents precise control of temperature and clay body. The opening also lets light pass through, giving the piece a different quality of presence depending on the light around it.

One piece, seven daily uses. Wall ornament, trivet, serving platter, fruit plate, teapot stand, cup rest, flat vase — Blessings in Flight has the most varied range of practical uses of any piece in the NewChi Porcelain collection. The blessing appears wherever the piece is placed.

Usage Scenarios

  • 五福臨門白瓷多功能方盤搭配茶壺,展示壺架隔熱桌盤使用情境,灰色背景,八方新氣 NewChi Porcelain

Trivet · Teapot stand · Cup rest

The four small feet lift the platter naturally off the surface, making it an ideal trivet. A teapot, coffee pot, or cup placed on it turns every act of drinking into an occasion accompanied by a blessing.

  • 適合個人輕食、水果的精緻擺盤——白瓷純白讓食物的色彩成為主角,蝴蝶紋飾為日常用餐增添節慶感。

    Serving platter · Fruit plate

The 19.5 cm square surface is well proportioned for individual light meals, seasonal fruit, afternoon pastry, or appetizer presentation. Pure white porcelain steps back so the food's color becomes the subject — the butterfly motif adds festive warmth without competing.

  • 盤面可作為平板花器,放置低矮的花材或苔蘚造景,也可陳列小物、香氛蠟燭或茶則,讓五福臨門成為桌面最有溫度的焦點。

    Flat vase · Living arrangement

The platter works as a flat base for low flower arrangements, moss, or stone compositions. It also suits the display of small objects — incense, candles, tea tools — making it the most considered focal point on any surface it occupies.

Inspiration | Reading Life's Philosophy in the Language of Objects

The platter is a rounded square — four butterflies at the corners, one butterfly at the center above the latticed opening, the five together mapping the four cardinal directions and the center in a composition that reads as movement converging on a single point. The surface carries a fine border line, giving the festive, populated layout the composed order that white porcelain requires.

The scrollwork surrounding the latticed opening echoes the arc language of the butterfly wings above it. Four small feet lift the piece off any surface, providing ventilation when used as a trivet or teapot stand, and the stability needed when hung as a wall piece.

Design Concept

Blessings in Flight is a multi-functional white porcelain platter by Heinrich Wang, designed around the Chinese auspicious phrase wufu linmen — five blessings arriving at the door. Five butterflies fly inward from every direction toward a central latticed opening, presenting the ancient blessing not as a symbol to be contemplated but as a scene in motion: the blessings are in flight, arriving, not yet settled. The piece combines the cultural resonance of a traditional auspicious object with the practical versatility of a contemporary everyday vessel.

Usage Scenarios

Blessings in Flight has the most varied range of uses in the NewChi Porcelain collection:

  • A. Wall ornament — Hung at the entrance, the butterfly lattice brings blessing to every arrival
  • B. Trivet — Four feet lift it naturally; protects surfaces from heat
  • C. Serving platter — Light meals, appetizers, individual courses
  • D. Fruit plate — Everyday fruit presented with festive warmth
  • E. Teapot stand · Cup rest — A blessing present at every act of drinking
  • F. Flat vase — Low flower arrangements, moss, stone compositions
  • G. Display base — Candles, incense, tea tools, small objects
