Design Inspiration : Climbing with Grace. Soaring in Spirit.

The Chiwen, one of the nine sons of the dragon in Chinese mythology, is a divine creature that loves high places and watches far. It often appears on rooftops to summon rain and ward off calamity.

In this teapot, the Chiwen’s ascent becomes symbolic: rising with ambition, observing with clarity, and anchoring one’s goals with grace. Designer Heinrich Wang reinterprets this ancient motif into a functional teaware sculpture that channels both tradition and modernity.

This piece invites you not just to drink tea, but to reflect—on your goals, your values, and the quiet strength of daily rituals.

Product Detail

Design Concept

“Reaching to the Peak” is a poetic interpretation of strength, vision, and graceful resilience—embodied in a porcelain teapot adorned with the legendary Chiwen (螭吻), one of the nine sons of the dragon in Chinese mythology.

Chiwen, also known as Chiwei or Dragon Fin, is said to love heights and gazing into the distance. Traditionally placed on rooftops to summon rain and ward off fire, Chiwen is an auspicious symbol of elevation, perspective, and protection. In this piece, two Chiwen ascend the sides of the smooth white teapot, their forms elegant and fluid, evoking upward motion and spiritual ambition.

This teapot balances “movement” and “stillness”—with its symmetrical shape suggesting grounded presence, and the upward-climbing dragons symbolizing aspirational ascent. The decorative Chiwen also serve a functional role: insulating the pot for a comfortable grip while echoing the ancient art of storytelling through form.

Whether placed on your tea table, collected as a symbolic art piece, or gifted to someone reaching new heights, Reaching to the Peak honors the beauty of calm ambition and inner strength.

FAQs

Is this a functional teapot or purely decorative?

It is fully functional—crafted for daily or ceremonial tea use, with excellent pouring flow and ergonomic handles that protect from heat.

What is the symbolic meaning of the Chiwen dragons?

In Chinese culture, Chiwen are protective creatures placed on rooftops to dispel misfortune and invite blessings. In this work, they represent the spirit of “reaching higher” in both life and vision.

Why is this piece more expensive than typical teapots?

Every NewChi porcelain is handcrafted with precision. The Chiwen’s sculptural form demands technical mastery, while the piece’s symbolism and dual-purpose design elevate it from functional ware to collectible art.
