Echoes of the Sea |A Listening Vessel to the Sea’s Embrace|Cup and Saucer Set

Hold the wave. Hear the sea.

Echoes of the Sea is a white porcelain cup and saucer set inspired by the port city of Kaohsiung — where the ocean is not a backdrop but a presence. The cup handle is a wave caught mid-curl, its form simultaneously a cresting billow and a listening ear. The figure-eight saucer is the surface of the sea at rest: one side for the cup, one side for a sweet or a spoon, giving each drink its own quiet order.

Why This Piece

A Cup that Listens|Waveform & Ear-shaped Handle

The flowing cup handle mimics a curling wave and an open ear, suggesting receptivity and emotional presence. It embodies the act of listening—to nature, to others, to oneself.

A Plate of Stillness|Figure-Eight Balance

Echoing the still sea, the plate’s soft curvature forms an elegant 8-shape—a symbol of harmony and infinity. The dual-surface layout offers both composure and function, enriching the drinking experience with natural symmetry.

Born of the Coast|Kaohsiung’s Soul in Porcelain

With a spirited yet serene form, Echo of the Sea pays tribute to Kaohsiung—its cultural openness and untamed energy. The piece captures a city’s essence: dynamic yet grounded, full of passion and grace.

Usage Scenarios|使用情境

  • 海洋白瓷咖啡杯搭配8字盤與甜點,展現當代品飲儀式感

A solitary moment — listening inward

One person, one cup, a quiet corner. The wave handle gives the act of drinking alone a quality of ceremony. No ocean view required — just a cup of coffee or tea, and the willingness to be still for a moment.

  • Echoes of the Sea 白瓷茶杯特寫,杯耳融合浪花與耳朵的設計語彙

Tea or coffee with good friend

The figure-eight saucer gives two cups their own natural territory on the table, with room for something sweet on the side. The generous spirit of the ocean sets the tone — unhurried, open, at ease.

  • 海洋 Echoes of the Sea 杯盤組置於書桌空間,兼具實用與藝術陳設功能

On the desk or at the entrance — always present

When not in use, the wave handle silhouette reads as a small white porcelain sculpture — worth looking at on its own terms. On a desk or at the entrance, it carries the spirit of the open ocean into whatever space it occupies.

Design Detail

The design logic of Echoes of the Sea is a dialogue between motion and stillness — the cup is the moving element, its wave handle carrying the energy of a breaking swell; the saucer is the still element, its figure-eight surface as calm as open water. Placed together on a table, the two create the conversation of shoreline and sea: one always in motion, one always receiving.

The cup proportions are calibrated so that the color of coffee or tea against the white porcelain interior is clear and vivid — the white surface makes the liquid's depth and tone more visible, giving the visual experience of drinking its own quality of attention.

Design Concept

Oceanic is a contemporary porcelain set that captures the rhythm of waves and the poetics of listening. Inspired by the port city of Kaohsiung in Taiwan, this cup and plate ensemble evokes the pulse of crashing tides and the silent strength of the sea breeze. The cup handle resembles a surging crest and a listening ear—an invitation to “hear the ocean” with every thoughtful sip.

Designed for contemplative solo use or elegant hospitality, the plate’s tranquil surface symbolizes calm waters. Its figure-eight shape creates a natural duality: one side for the cup, the other for a tea bag, sweet, or spoon. This piece brings both aesthetic poetry and practical rhythm to tea or coffee rituals.

FAQs

Why does the handle of Echoes of the Sea look like an ear?

Echoes of the Sea fuses two images in a single form — the breaking wave and the listening ear. The handle is not only the motion of the ocean captured in porcelain; it also carries the intention of listening: to nature, to the people around us, and to the quieter voice within.

What is the purpose of the figure-eight saucer?

The figure-eight saucer serves two purposes simultaneously. Practically, the shape divides naturally into two areas — the larger side holds the cup, the smaller side provides a dedicated space for a tea bag, a sweet, a sugar packet, or a spoon. This gives the drinking surface its own order without requiring a separate small dish. Symbolically, the figure-eight echoes the mathematical symbol for infinity (∞) — the endless cycle of tides, the ocean that never stops arriving. Each time you sit down with Echoes of the Sea, the saucer is already telling you that this moment is part of something that continues.

What occasions is Echoes of the Sea appropriate for as a gift?

The imagery of Echoes of the Sea — listening, openness, the generosity of the ocean — translates naturally into several gifting occasions. Housewarming: bringing the expansive spirit of the ocean into a new living space. Birthday: the act of listening is itself a gift, and this piece carries that intention in its form. Corporate relationship gifts: the spirit of Kaohsiung's port — open, inclusive, facing outward — is an apt wish for any business relationship worth cultivating.
