Design Details

A Form Shaped by the Seasons

The body opens into four rounded lobes, each corresponding to a season and a direction. Together they create a form that feels generous and complete, expressing the fullness gathered through time rather than the perfection of a single moment.

The Persimmon and the Meaning of Fulfillment

At the centre of the lid rests a persimmon-inspired finial. The Chinese word for persimmon, shì, echoes the word for “matters” or “affairs,” inspiring the traditional blessing shì shì rú yì—may everything unfold as wished.

Rather than serving as ornament alone, the persimmon gives the piece its emotional centre: a wish for life to find its proper season and for each undertaking to arrive at fulfillment.

Ruyi Clouds in Quiet Relief

Hand-finished ruyi cloud motifs travel around the lid in a continuous rhythm. Their raised contours catch changing light across the translucent glaze, bringing subtle movement to an otherwise serene form.

Fired Separately, Made to Belong Together

The lid and body are formed and fired separately at 1,300°C. Because porcelain contracts and may shift during high-temperature firing, achieving a balanced fit requires careful control of proportion, shrinkage, and contact surfaces.

This precision allows the two pieces to meet naturally while preserving the purity and clarity of the porcelain form.

Design Concept

Four seasons turn, and life quietly gathers meaning.

Designed by Heinrich Wang, Four Seasons Keepsake is a handcrafted white porcelain box shaped around the rhythm of the year. Four softly rounded sides suggest the changing seasons and the world’s four directions, while a persimmon crowns the lid as an Eastern symbol of wishes fulfilled.

A keepsake is not valuable simply because it belongs to the past. It becomes meaningful when it continues to accompany the life being lived.

With Four Seasons Keepsake, NewChi brings an ancient language of blessings into a contemporary porcelain form. The box does not ask time to stand still. It offers a place where each season may leave something behind—and where memory can remain present without becoming heavy.

Made to hold jewelry, seals, letters, and small objects of personal meaning, it turns safekeeping into a quiet ritual—one that keeps memory close while allowing life to move forward.
