Compassion in Bloom|Limited White Porcelain Sculpture · Buddha Hand · Lotus

Compassion needs no altar. It lives wherever you choose to place it.

A hand raised in offering, fingertips cradling a lotus bud. One side: a meditation object for any room — bookshelf, living corner, quiet desk. The other: a vessel whose cupped palm becomes a holder for flowers, embodying the compassion that receives as openly as it gives. Limited to 222 pieces, handcrafted at Heinrich Wang's studio, NewChi Porcelain.

Why Compassion in Bloom|Why This Piece

A hand and a lotus — two symbols that need no translation. The Buddha hand (佛手) carries the homophonic blessing of fortune (福) in Chinese culture; the lotus represents purity and the beauty that rises from difficulty. Together, they form one of the most quietly powerful visual blessings in the Chinese artistic tradition.

One object, two faces. The front face is a meditative sculpture — a hand holding a lotus in stillness. Turn it, and the cupped palm becomes a vessel for flowers, an embodiment of compassion that does not only give, but receives and holds.

Not on an altar. In your life. Heinrich Wang has long believed in the spirit of "Buddhism in everyday life, everyday life in Buddhism." Compassion in Bloom is not a deity to be worshipped from a distance — it is a wise presence for a bookshelf or living room corner, where its visual language can quietly accompany the rhythms of daily life.

Limited to 222 pieces. Each handcrafted in white porcelain at Heinrich Wang's studio — a material he has described as uniquely suited to sacred imagery, its pure luminosity making the divine feel both present and approachable.

Design Detail

The hand of Compassion in Bloom rises from a flat base, fingers naturally open, palm facing upward — the gesture of offering, of receiving, of holding without grasping. At the fingertips, a lotus bud rests in the lightest possible contact. White porcelain glaze moves across the curved surfaces of each finger, pooling differently in the spaces between them; the piece changes with every shift of light.

The dual-face design is Heinrich Wang's sculptural interpretation of compassion itself: the front face gives — a hand presenting a lotus; the reverse receives — the cupped palm forming a natural vessel for a single stem or blossom. One gesture, two directions. Both are compassion.

Product Detail

Design Concept

Compassion in Bloom is a limited edition white porcelain sculpture and floral vessel by Heinrich Wang, handcrafted at NewChi Porcelain's studio, limited to 222 pieces. The piece takes the image of a Buddha hand holding a lotus (拈蓮) as its visual language — the Buddha hand carrying the homophonic blessing of fortune, the lotus embodying purity and the grace that rises from difficulty. Heinrich Wang has practiced Buddhism throughout his life, shaped by the teachings of Master Sheng Yen and the spirit of Tzu Chi — both of which emphasize that Buddhist wisdom is lived, not recited. His sculptural work reflects this: Compassion in Bloom is not an object of worship to be placed at a distance, but a wise and gentle presence for everyday spaces. It is designed for dual use: the front face is a meditative sculpture; the reverse, a vessel whose cupped palm holds flowers — an embodiment of the compassion that gives, and the compassion that receives.

Occasions or Usage

As a display object, place Compassion in Bloom where the eye naturally rests — bookshelf, living room corner, or desk. Its presence needs no explanation; those who see it understand.

As a floral vessel, turn the piece and rest a single lotus, white plum, or slender stem in the cupped palm. The gesture becomes real.

As a gift, the cultural depth of the Buddha hand and lotus, combined with the intimacy of Heinrich Wang's Buddhist practice and the rarity of 222 pieces, makes this one of the most considered gifts you can offer a person of wisdom and experience.

Ideal For

Elder & senior gifting / Retirement gift / Housewarming gift / Those who value contemplative spaces / Buddhist culture enthusiasts / Premium white porcelain collectors / High-end sculptural display

  • Compassion is a fragrance — fluid, unhurried.
Pure and warm, it embraces what is unsettled.
It holds loneliness. It witnesses longing.
Selfless, boundless — present in all things.
    — Heinrich Wang

FAQs

What is the meaning behind Compassion in Bloom?

Compassion in Bloom is a limited edition white porcelain sculpture and floral vessel by Heinrich Wang of NewChi Porcelain, limited to 222 pieces. It takes the image of a Buddha hand holding a lotus (拈蓮) as its visual language — the Buddha hand carrying the homophonic blessing of fortune (福), the lotus embodying purity and grace. The piece is designed for dual use: the front face is a meditative sculpture; the reverse, a vessel whose cupped palm can hold a single flower. One object, two expressions of compassion.

Where should Compassion in Bloom be placed?

Heinrich Wang's guiding philosophy is "Buddhism in everyday life, everyday life in Buddhism." Compassion in Bloom is not intended solely for an altar or shrine — it is designed to accompany daily life, on a bookshelf, a living room side table, or a study desk. Its visual language works quietly: those who encounter it in passing find something in it; those who sit with it find more.

Is Compassion in Bloom a good gift for an elder or someone retiring?

Yes — for someone whose life has accumulated wisdom and whose character you genuinely respect, Compassion in Bloom carries the wish expressed in Heinrich Wang's own tradition: may their years be like the lotus — clear, unhurried, and always finding its way to light. The cultural depth of the Buddha hand and lotus, the rarity of 222 pieces, and Heinrich Wang's own Buddhist practice give this gift a sincerity that speaks for itself.
